This is a rare opportunity to join a boutique electrical engineering firm with a niche set of skills that is highly valued by our customers.
Justin Read formed ConsultJR in 2015 after more than 20 years in the electrical contracting and construction industry. Justin is a chartered professional engineer on the National Engineering Register and a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ). He is also a past Chair of the Queensland Electrical Branch of Engineers Australia and remains active on this committee.
ConsultJR provides engineering design solutions as well as design management and project management services to our clients from diverse industry sectors such as water & wastewater, oil & gas, airports, quarries and much more. We are experts in LV power systems and private HV networks to 33kV. Our services are becoming more and more in demand, and this has created a need to add to our close-knit team. We are looking for final year electrical engineering students or recently graduated electrical engineers with an enthusiasm for their chosen profession and a readiness to learn and contribute in a dynamic environment.
If you want to learn about electrical power systems at LV and private HV systems to 33kV and commence your pathway towards becoming a Chartered Engineer, this is the opportunity for you.
You will learn how to: ask great questions to make you more effective; add real value for our customers; think strategically to provide comprehensive solutions; and we’ll help you be better today – as a professional, as a teammate, as a contributor. These are our core values.
You will learn how to undertake detailed engineering design tasks for HV and LV infrastructure at airports, hospitals, quarries, bulk water facilities, logistics facilities, renewable energy systems, … the list goes on. Apply your skills where they are needed, make a difference and make your name as an engineer!
At ConsultJR you will:
- prepare estimates and consultancy proposals with due consideration of technical, commercial and pricing aspects
- perform power system modelling at HV and LV, including load flow, system strength and fault calculations, power quality analysis, protection coordination and dynamic disturbance analysis
- complete design tasks for HV/LV power systems, electrical switchboards and control panels, process instrumentation, process control systems and others
- work to Safety in Design principles in accordance with state based WH&S legislation
- prepare project specifications, design reports and other project documentation
- contribute to technical discussions internally, with customers and with suppliers on behalf of ConsultJR
- market ConsultJR’s services to current and prospective customers
Where we have an electrical design role, you will learn to create design drawings and reports and liaise with clients and supply authorities to ensure our high standards and design practices are maintained. Where we are assisting in a delivery management role, you will learn how to be the technical interface between the principal electrical contractor, the asset owner, the control system integrator, the switchboard builder as well as other specialist subcontractors and suppliers. You will ‘knit it all together’ to ensure the electrical works are implemented as a seamless and elegantly designed package.
Here’s why working with us will be the best career move you ever make:
We’re a young business, but with an unmatched breadth of electrical infrastructure experience. You’ll be supported in your work with ongoing training and professional development. You will have full project life-cycle exposure. Our structured design processes and team-based approach will ensure your success (we don’t do ‘project heroes’). You’ll earn a great salary, grow your professional network and work alongside some of the best in the industry. This is an exciting and dynamic role in a fast-growing company, every day is a new challenge!
About You:
You will bring to the company a thirst for learning and an ability to comprehend complex engineering topics. You will present professionally and communicate well in writing and in person with peers, customers, suppliers and subcontractors alike. You will have excellent attention to detail and will be willing to learn through the combined experience of your fellow engineers, formal training provided by the company and your own research.
You will offer the following:
- excellent documentation and report writing skills
- strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- university level exposure to LV and HV power systems
- proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite
- Autodesk AutoCAD experience (not essential but highly valued)
- An undergraduate degree (or be studying to attain such a degree) in electrical engineering, recognized by Engineers Australia as meeting the requirements for membership as a Professional Engineer
We will provide a pleasant office environment and all the software and IT tools you need to complete your work. We will put you on a Chartered pathway with Engineers Australia and will help you progress your career if you are willing to learn from us and contribute positively to our company.
